Louis R. "Ben" Boldt was born November 1, 1926, in South St. Paul, MN, the son of Louis and Aurelia Boldt. He grew up and attended school in Paynesville, MN where he graduated high school in 1944. He immediately enlisted in the US Navy where he served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII and participated in the Occupation of Japan. He was also a veteran of the Korean War and served during the Cold War on a submarine for the Pacific Fleet. In 1964, he retired from the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after twenty years of service. Louis was united in marriage to Joyce Baklund in Willmar on February 2, 1957. The couple made their home in Phoenix, AZ where they owned a liquor store and a landscaping business. In 1984, they moved to the Crosslake Area and built a home on Lower Whitefish Lake. Ben was a member of Crosslake Lutheran Church, American Legion, Post # 500, and Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 136.
Louis passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd, MN. Louis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce; his son, Lyle (Linda), of Shawboro, NC; three grandchildren, Lyle, Jr., Sandra and Francis, all of Virginia Beach; eight great-grandchildren, Evan, Meagan, Breanna, Christina, Chloe, Casey, Sierra, and Isaiah; and one great-great-grandchild, Elijah.
Louis passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Shawboro, NC. "What a way to go."
