Lloyd Sams

Lloyd F. Sams, age 90, of Staples, died Saturday afternoon at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Assembly of God Church in Staples with Rev. Roy Miles officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery at Staples. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Monday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples and also for one hour prior to Services at the Church on Tuesday.
Lloyd Francis Sams was born on September 11,1914, in Billings County near Amidon, ND, the son of Harry and Deema (Holler)Sams. He was called from this life Saturday afternoon at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples. He attained the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 5 days.

Lloyd grew up and attended school near Amidon. After his schooling he stayed on the family farm to work, taking care of as many as 85 horses. He also worked the wheat harvest, starting down South and working back to North Dakota. In 1934 he bought a new truck and hauled livestock to South St. Paul for several years. On April 20, 1941, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Jehrke in Green City, Missouri. To this union 4 sons, Roddy, Doyall, Royall, and Dallas were born. Lloyd and Geraldine were able to share over 64 years of marriage together. After their marriage the couple farmed near Staples for 51years. They built a good dairy set up in which the whole family shared the work. For 15 years Lloyd and Geraldine were able to winter in Arizona, entertaining many friends and relatives that came to visit. In 2003 Lloyd was admitted to the Lakewood Care Center.

Lloyd was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Staples serving faithfully in many capacities. He was also a member of several other Boards, including the School Board, Farmers Union Board, and the PCA Board. Besides his family, he loved his horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Deema; a brother, Lafayette; and a sister, Beulah. Lloyd is mourned in passing by his wife of 64 years, Geraldine; sons, Roddy (Jan) Sams of Staples, Doyall (Bonnie) Sams of Murrietta, CA, Royall (Sharon) Sams of Broken Arrow, OK, and Dallas (Mary Beth) Sams of Staples; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren, a sister, Floy Mae Raddahl of Nimrod, MN; and 2 step-brothers, Harold George of Perham, MN and Leslie George of Washington State.
