Lloyd Otteson, age 83, of Staples, passed away at the Lakewood Health System Care Center on Sunday, May 17. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, May 20, at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, with Rev. Steve Sveom officiating. The visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 at the church and one hour prior to the service. Burial, with honors, will be at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery.
Lloyd Kermit Otteson was born on September 9, 1925 in Evan, Minnesota to Charles and Marie (Jensen) Otteson, Lloyd went to school and farmed with his dad in Nevis, Minnesota until 1942 when he enlisted in the US Army during WWII. After serving three years for his country, Lloyd married Teresa Kruse on February 18, 1949 and moved along with his parents to a farm in Staples, Minnesota. Lloyd farmed with his father and worked as a mechanic for Phillip 66, after which he worked part-time at the Staples High School doing grounds work. When he retired, he worked for Green Thumb at the Central Lakes College for 13 years.
Lloyd enjoyed coaching the girls' softball team for 18 years as well as watching his sons play on local teams. He loved bowling, fishing, hunting, camping, dancing, playing cards, listening to Big Band music while going on Sunday drives with his wife. He also enjoyed berry picking and gardening and looked forward to going up to the lake by Park Rapids each summer with the family.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Teresa; children, Toni Otteson; Rick (Deb) Otteson; Craig (Sandy) Otteson. Judy (Tom) Hall; Kim (John) Riewer; Pam Otteson; Jim (Mary Jo Otteson); 15, grandchildren,19great - grandchildren; two German granddaughters, Alice Cholewa and Zoe Brossy; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Busker and Jimmy; sons, Steven, Gary and Brian; grandson, Charlie Otteson and great-grandson, Brandon Otteson. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
