Lionel Stelck, 92, of Motley, MN died Thursday, May 3, 2018 at his home. Services for Lionel will be 11:00AM, Friday, May 11, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Motley, MN with Rev. Paul E. Koehler officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment with Military Honors by the Motley American Legion Post 124 will be at Motley Public Cemetery.
Lionel was born January 31, 1926 in Rosslyn, Virginia to Herman and Blanche (Breckenridge) Stelck. He moved to Motley as a young man. Lionel served in the Merchant Marine during WWII in the South Pacific and Middle East. After being Honorably Discharged, he came back home and worked for Northern Pacific Railroad, and then Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring as a Conductor in 1988. He was married to Geraldine Haney in February 1945; she died in 1993. Lionel married Bettylou Rosvold Irwin on July 12, 1994 in St. Cloud, MN. He enjoyed photography, fishing, hunting, gardening, and doing crossword puzzles. Lionel was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.
Lionel is survived by his wife, Bettylou Stelck of Motley, MN; children, Ronald (Margaret) Stelck of Cushing, MN, Sandy Gilmore of Palmer, AK, Linda Biggs of Henderson, NC, Kevin Stelck of Elm City, NC, Larry (Anne) Stelck of Palmer, AK, Todd (Marie) Stelck of San Pablo City, Philippines; step daughter, Lujean Vacura of Motley, MN; 19 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Blanche Stelck; wife, Geraldine in 1993; infant son, Lionel Stelck; step son, Brad Irwin; sons-in-law, Joseph Gilmore and Bill Biggs. Services have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.
