Levi Robert Fry was born on September 23, 2018. He surprised us by coming into the world early, when his mom was in North Dakota visiting her family. His first bed was an incubator at the Altru Hospital NICU. While there, he was cared for continually and expertly by nurses and hospital staff.
He worked on breathing. He took nutrition. He grew. All along, he was encouraged and loved by his family. His mother, Julia, was his first and closest lover. He had always known her, and he was most comfortable with her nearby. She spent many hours with him. His father Justin, grandmother Laurie, aunts, and great-aunts also spent time with him while he lived there. Over time, he got bigger and stronger. He learned to nurse, but that made breathing hard. He worked on nursing and breathing at the same time. His family loved him from nearby and from a distance. Many faithful friends prayed for him. He learned to breathe and nurse at the same time. He smiled at his dad when he touched his face.
After many weeks, the hospital staff decided that he was ready to go home. He rode in the car, all the way to his family’s new house in the Minnesota woods. He met his big brother Calvin and big sister Hadley. He lay trustingly on their laps and got jiggled around as they tried to sit calmly and protect his little head. For the first time, he got to see sunlight, so different in quality from the fluorescent lights of the hospital unit. He got to smell cooking food. He heard the family’s dogs’ claws click excitedly around on the floor. He went outside, on an adventure to cut down a Christmas tree with the whole family! He was bundled in a blanket and felt the cold winter air on his face.
Then he got sick. The illness advanced rapidly and violently. His parents rushed him to medical care. The medical staff worked as fast as they could. Again, his family and friends gathered and prayed. He reminded us of the fragility of life in this world, and our complete dependence on our Heavenly Father. But the evil spread in his tiny body so quickly. He died on Thursday, November 29th, 2018.
He is survived by his parents; Justin and Julia Fry; siblings, Calvin and Hadley Fry; Grandparents, Rob and Mickey Fry and Jon and Laurie Berg and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Grandmother Sherri and Grandfather Rich Anderson. Now he lives in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We look forward to meeting him there again someday soon.
