Lester DopLind, age 88, of Brainerd passed away at his home on Friday, December 7, 2007. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, December 12 at 11:00am at the Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd with Rev Rory Swenson officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30am at the church. Burial will take place at the MN Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Letser was born on May 17, 1919 in Brainerd to Gust and Margre (Lundberg) Lind. He grew up in Brainerd and graduated from Brainerd High School in 1937, lettering in Football, Baseball, and Basketball. After high school he went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad as a sheet metal worker and welder. On September 10, 1942 he was united in marriage to Juanita Harris at the First Methodist Church in Brainerd. Shortly after, he entered into the Army where he served as a surgical technician in England, Italy, and North Africa. In 1982 he retired from the railroad and he and Juanita took up traveling with memorable trips to Scandinavia and Greece. He was a lifetime member of The Park United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, and the Deer Hunters Association. He was a woodworker and an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. He had a great love for baseball, playing in high school, pitching while in the service, and playing on the Legion team for many years. He will be missed by his wife of 65 years Juanita; his children, Doug (Bonnie) of Maple Plain, and Debra (Doug 2) Vollmer of Palm Desert, CA; brothers, Carlos (Inez) and Earl (Bernice); sister, Mary Nyquist; hunting partner, Jackson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Theodore, James, Maebelle, Marguerite, and Betty. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Park United Methodist Church and the American Heart Association.
