Leroy Flickinger, Sr

Leroy Flickinger, 72, of Motley, MN passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services for Leroy will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Motley United Methodist Church in Motley, with Pastor Greg Ciesluk officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7PM, Wednesday, February 8 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN. Interment will be at Motley Public Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Motley American Legion Post #124.

Leroy was born August 3, 1944 in Maple Ridge, MN to Karmon and Mary (Wright) Flickinger. He graduated from Motley High School in 1962, where he played baseball, basketball and football during high school. Leroy enlisted in US Army in 1962 and served his country for four years. Leroy and Janet Swartz were united in marriage on March 12, 1963 in Frazee, MN. They moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky and was later deployed to Frankfurt, Germany, where he served for two years. After he was Honorably Discharged, they returned to Motley where he farmed, sold tires for Montgomery Ward in Brainerd, drove school bus for 16 years for Motley, and drove a mail route at Motley for 10 years. Leroy still farmed by administration. He enjoyed having coffee at the Countryside Restaurant, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, talking sports, deer hunting and fishing in the summer.

Leroy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet; four boys, Leroy Jr. (Aletha), Brian (Louise), Kevin, and Mike all of Motley; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and brother, Chuck (Bernie) of Motley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Karmon and Mary Flickinger, uncle, Earl Wright; father in law, Earl Swartz; mother in law, Ida Swartz.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
