Leonard "Chip" Nelson

October 23, 1948 — October 14, 2022

Chip (Leonard David Jr) Nelson had a cardiac arrest on October 14, 2022. He died at his beloved family forest, Tick Hill, in Maple Township, MN. Chip was born on October 23, 1948, on the Naval Base in Guam. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Minneapolis in 1967. Chip was in the US Navy from 1968-1972 aboard the USS America. He graduated from the U of MN with degrees in education and taught Tech Ed in Anoka-Hennepin.

Chip is survived by his loving wife, Marge; son, Ben (Rachel), their children Norman, Nelita and Emily; son, Alex (Monique), their sons Ryker and Beckett; sister, Barb (Bruce) Hodson; and many nieces and nephews.

Chip was an avid sports fan; his grandchildren were his favorite athletes. He enjoyed the service and fellowship of weekly church maintenance and would drop anything to help his sons and friends with projects. Chip loved nature in all its forms and was most at peace when surrounded by it.

A memorial service will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 19001 Jackson St NE, East Bethel, MN on October 28, 2022. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM followed by the service at 11:00 AM. Donations to the charity of donor’s choice.

In Chip’s memory, lend a hand, plant a tree, raise a glass. He will be missed.
