Leonard Olson

Leonard Arthur Olson, 81, of Backus, MN, passed away on February 17, 2025, at his home after a short illness.

Len was born on January 29, 1944, to Ervin and Natalie (Cartier) Olson in Minneapolis, MN. Len joined the Army when he was 17 and while enlisted, he earned his GED. Len was stationed in Germany where he was considered an expert rifleman. Len married Judish Vienup on June 12, 1965. Together they raised their two children, Michael and Jeffrey.

Len was outgoing and enjoyed joking with people. This made him a successful salesperson throughout his working career. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and made numerous trips to Canada where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends.

Len is survived by his wife, Judy; two children, Michael (JoEllen) and Jeffrey (Patty); six grandchildren, Zachary (Hannah), Anisah, Maguire, Olivia, Trent (Leah), and Brody (Phoenix); three great-grandchildren, Veda, Harper, and Hudson; three brothers, Lee (Galina), Les (Linda), and Nick (Lisa); sister-in-law, Jane; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Len was preceded in death by his father, Ervin, mother, Natalie, brothers, Lyle and Larry, and sister, Judy Thayer.
