Leonard ?Ole? Howard, 73, of Brainerd, died Wednesday February 25, at Fort Walton Beach, Florida. ?Ole? Howard was born February 16, 1931, in Aitkin County, to Minnie and Peter Howard. He was united in marriage to Muriel Howard, in Kimberly, on June 6, 1953. He graduated from Aitkin High School in 1949 and received his Bachelors of Science and Vocational Certification from Bemidji State College. He moved to Brainerd in 1954 and was an elementary school teacher at Lowell Elementary School, Garfield Elementary School, Harrison Elementary School, and then moved to Brainerd High School to become the work experience coordinator. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and President of the congregation. He was a member of the Brainerd Kiwanis Club, the Aurora Lodge #100 AF & AM, the Ray Promenaders Club, and the American Legion. He was a retired volunteer fireman, Parks and Recreation Director, City Council member, and was currently serving as a member of the Brainerd Public Utilities Commission. His hobbies included being an avid sports fan, hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Ole is survived by his wife of 50 years, Muriel; his daughter, Cathy (Don) Jordan, of Georgia; his son, Terry, of Park Rapids; grandsons Troy Jordan of Brainerd, Nicholas Jordan of Auburn, Alabama, and Skyler Howard of Park Rapids; a brother, Lawrence Howard and a sister, Florence Burlingame, both of Aitkin; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, his brothers Luther, George, Francis, Walter, Woodrow, William, and Richard; and his sister Beatrice preceded Ole in death.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, March 3, 11 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd, with Reverend David Holte officiating. Friends may visit at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Arrangements entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
