Leona Mae Weverstad Gran, age 100, of Golden Valley, MN, and formerly Pequot Lakes, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016. She was born on August 23, 1916 at Holmen, Wisconsin, to C. Albin and Randena (Schansberg) Weverstad. She graduated from Holmen High School and from Wisconsin Business University at La Crosse, Wisconsin. She worked for five years at the Gundersen Clinic in La Crosse, as Secretary and Admissions Clerk.
In 1941 she married Irvin Gran who was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad. In 1945 they moved to Minneapolis where they lived for ten years. They had two children, Bradford Gran (Mary Alice Sell Donovan Gran) of Nashville, TN, and Cheryl Isakson (Gary Isakson) of Minneapolis, MN.
In 1954 they moved to Le Sueur, MN, where Irvin was employed by the Green Giant Company and Leona worked at the Minnesota Valley Memorial Hospital as Assistant Administrator. She earned her license to operate a fifty bed hospital plus Nursing Home, a position which she held for seventeen years, after having worked as Secretary and Financial Secretary at First Methodist Church for five years.
In 1977 they retired and built their home in Breezy Point, MN, and after fifteen years they built a home in Pequot Lakes, MN. Irvin died in February of 2003. In 2005 Leona sold her home in Pequot Lakes and moved to Golden Valley Covenant Village in Minneapolis, and lived there until she died on November 9, 2016.
In early life, Leona taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and sang in the choir. In Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes she was active in Morning Glory Circle, American Lutheran Church Women, Prayer Chain, Prayer Group, was on the Church Council for two years as Trustee, belonged to the Young at Heart group and led several adult groups for eight years in Crossways International Bible Series. She was active in a quilting group, making quilts for Lutheran World Relief and attended Adult Sunday School Class.
Her other interests included sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting, bead work and embroidering. Above all, she loved her family, her church and her many friends.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and three brothers: Stanley, Leonard and Clarence Weverstad; and two sisters: Doris (Joseph) Watson and Inez (Max) Brunnemann. She is survived by one sister, Arlene (George) Dasse of Sun Valley, CA.
Irvin and Leona had five grandchildren: Bryan (Jennifer) Gran of Christiana, TN, Blake Gran of Jackson, TN, Hunter (Mary Kate) Isakson of Melrose, MA, Lindsay Bridges of Orlando, FL, Courtney (Evan) Foley of Shelton, CT; two step grandchildren: William (Jodi) Donovan and Melinda (Clayton) Hensley; six great grandchildren: Kody, Cooper and Carson Gran, Tess and Phoebe Isakson and Parker Bridges; also three step great grandchildren: William and Hazel Hensley and Addison Donovan.
Memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes.
Services will be 2 PM on Monday, November 14, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Our Savior's Cemetery.
