Leon "Tex" Hoemberg, 81, of Staples, MN died on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Lakewood Health System Hospital in Staples, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples, with Father Joe Korf officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00PM, Friday, March 27, 2015 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, with a prayer service at 6:00PM and also from 10:00AM to the time of services Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples, MN.
Leon was born December 12, 1933 in Staples, MN to John and Mary (Freund) Hoemberg. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School through the 8th grade. His family had a dairy farm and bottled and delivered milk in the area. Leon milked cows for his neighbor, Ralph, worked at Wadena Silos, Masons Warehouse and owned the Phillips 66 full service station in Staples. Leon met Geneva in Motley, and gave her a ride on his Harley Davidson motorcycle back to Staples and that was the start to their long relationship. Leon and Geneva (Trout) were united in marriage June 27, 1955 in Philbrook, MN. They lived in Wadena for 4 years, and then moved to Staples in 1959. Leon worked as a heavy equipment operator until he had to retire due to health reasons at the age of 40. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Dower Lake Jalopy racing, reading mainly Louis L'Amour books, western movies, motorcycles, tractors, hobby farming and having a large vegetable garden.
Leon is survived by his wife, Geneva; children, Jerome (Candi) of Gresham, OR, Gary (Darla) of Staples, MN, Kenneth (Brandy Rasmussen) of Browerville, MN, Virginia (Ronald) Olson of Staples, MN, Daniel (Christi) of Nowthen, MN, Brian (Sue) of Motley, MN, David (Bev) of Motley, MN, Ronald of Staples, MN, Bruce (Penny) of Staples, MN; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; siblings, Lloyd Hoemberg of Staples, MN, Mary Lou Hoemberg of Staples, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Hoemberg; siblings, Matt, Edwin, Bernard "Bud", Rose, Josephine, Delores, Frances, and an infant brother. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
