Leo Fuhrer

March 13, 1947 — January 21, 2009

Leo Wayne Fuhrer, 61, of Brainerd, died at his home Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Services for Leo will be 3 PM, Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with Stacie Fuhrer officiating. Friends are welcome to gather two hours prior to services. Interment will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley, MN. Potluck Luncheon to follow services at the Salvation Army.
Leo was born March 13, 1947 in Pine River, MN, the son of Lester L. and May (Potts) Fuhrer. After graduating from high school, Leo served his country in Vietnam and Japan as part of the US Navy. Following his honorable discharge, Leo was united in marriage to Darlene Beach. The couple made their home in the Brainerd Lakes Area.

Leo owned and operated L.W. Fuhrer and Sons Construction for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, reading, horses, races and spending time with his family. He was a fan of John Wayne. Leo was hard-working. He was a selfless man who was loved by his family and friends. He was the first person to help somebody who needed it and the last person to ask for something in return. Everyone who knew him loved him and was blessed by having his presence in their lives. He will be missed by all, but never forgotten.

Leo is survived by his wife, Darlene; sons, Chad (Jamie) Bestul, of Blaine, , Erik (Stacie) Furhrer, of Brainerd, , Joshua (Jodie) Fuhrer, of Brainerd, , and Andrew Fuhrer; his daughter, Becky (Troy) Thompson, of Baxter; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his siblings, Chloe Smith, of Backus, Dody Breggeman, of Pequot Lakes, Joe Fuhrer, of Backus, Harold Fuhrer, of Foley, Stella Large, of Pine River, and Robin Fuhrer, of Arden Hills; and many nieces and nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his father, Lester and his mother, May.
