Lena Worthington

Born January 17, 1917
Died May 25, 2014

My mother used to tell people she was born during WWI but she didn't start it!

My Mom worked hard her whole life. She was the next to the youngest in a large family of 10. Her Dad had a neighborhood grocery and Mom worked in the store from the time she was 10 years old, cutting slabs of bacon, grinding hamburger, taking pickles out of barrels of brine. She said she ate her Dad's profit in cookies and junk food.

Mom met my Dad, William David Worthington, at a class social at church. Dad brought another girl to the social but took a liking to Mom, took his date home and came back to the social to get Mom. A mock wedding ceremony was conducted on New Year's Eve, 78 years ago in their church. Surprising to the congregation Lea and Dave were married during that ceremony.

My Mom had a wonderful sense of humor. She was the best joke teller, I have ever known. No matter what the occasion or situation she knew a joke that was just perfect.
When we went shopping together we would stop at the greeting card counters and read cards, laugh until tears were streaming down our faces and people would come to see what was so funny.

This is what her great grandchildren Dylan Bailey, Samantha Jaedike, Sydnee Jaedike, remember the most about GiGi, her silliness and laughter swatting at imaginary bugs at Nisswa Dairy Queen.

Webster's Dictionary states friend is a person whom one knows, likes and trusts. Lynn Wallace, Peggy French, and Dorothy Russell, Phoenix friends of 55 years, were all this and more. Mom knew she could always count on them for their prayers, their love ad their laughter.,

Memorial Service for Lea will be Saturday, May 31, 2014, Brenny Funeral Chapel, 7348 Excelsior Rd., Brainerd, MN. Viewing will be 10 A.M, Memorial Service at 11 A.M., Lunch served at 12 Noon.

The grandchildren, David Ahern, Kelly Jaedike, Molly Ahern, and daughter Janice Ahern would like to ask in lieu of flowers a donation be sent to St. Croix Hospice, 2330 Troop Dr. #102, Sartell, MN 56377.
