Lawrence Theis

Lawrence John Theis, 91, died Monday August 5, 2019 in Baxter, MN. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Sept. 13, 2019 at Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter, 12-2PM with a prayer service at 2PM. A private family interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa, MN later.

Larry was born on July 24, 1928 in St. Nicholas, MN. He met Donna Olson in 1949 and they married on January 28, 1950 in Monticello, MN. They had 8 children and lived in Bloomington, Savage, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and Baxter, MN.

Larry was a trucker for most of his life until he retired in 1988 from Yellow Freight Trucking. In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, running the weed control business in Clark Lake, and the ‘500’ card club in Pequot Lakes. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and gave words of advice about those hobbies to his children and grandkids.

For many years he loved and enjoyed the cabin he built in Crosslake on Fawn Lake. He grew to love that area so much that him & Donna bought their home in Nisswa on Clark Lake. They lived there until 2012 with a move to a town home in Pequot Lakes. Their final move was in 2015 to Northern Lakes Senior Living in Baxter. He resided there until his death.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Anton & Olivia Theis; wife Donna; 2 daughters, Linda and Teresa; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

He is survived by 6 children; Kathie (Darwin) Upton, Pat (Dennis) Borchardt, Connie Cotterman, Steven (Marisa) Theis, Leo Theis, Mary (Jon) Baumann; son-in-law Tom Strand; 18 grandkids; 19 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
