LaVerne L. Wahl of Jenkins passed away Monday, August 24, 2015, at Essentia St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. LaVerne was born May 17, 1930, in Winnebago, MN, to Louis and Lottie (Dunlap) Wahl. He attended Delavan High School and graduated in 1948. After graduation LaVerne joined the United States Navy. On May 8, 1954, LaVerne married the love of his life, Vera Olson, and they had two daughters, Cheryl and Debra. LaVerne was an active member of the Pine River United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Jenkins V.F.W.
LaVerne was a master barber for 52 years in Wayzata, Pine River, Pequot Lakes, and, in the last years, at his shop in Jenkins. He loved to garden and enjoyed sitting on his deck watching the wildlife.
LaVerne is survived by his wife, Vera; daughters, Cheryl (Wyatt) Dupont and Debra Wahl; grandchildren: Alicia Schlief, Kyle Schlief, Jennifer Dupont, Heather Marcum; great grandchildren: Tyler, Devin, Brayden, Eli, Grace, Isaac, Indy; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Wahl; and grandson, Chase Schlief.
The family appreciated the kind and compassionate care LaVerne received from the Pine River Good Samaritan Society.
Celebration of life will be 1 PM on Friday, August 28, at First Lutheran Church, Pine River. Burial will be in the Jenkins Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
