LaVern Wohlert

October 21, 1929 — April 7, 2018

LaVern Wohlert (Fred), 88, of Lake Shamineau, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Lakewood Health System Hospital in Staples. Services for LaVern will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Motley United Methodist Church, with Pastor Greg Leslie officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7PM, Friday, April 13 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and one hour prior to services at the church. Military Honors provided by the Motley American Legion Post #124.

LaVern was born October 21, 1929 in Wadena, MN to Arthur and Elizabeth (Kresien) Wohlert. He graduated from Wadena High School. After graduation, he worked at Armour Meat Packing in Fargo. In 1950 he joined the US Army, assigned to the 114th Transportation Company at Camp McCoy, WI. He was Honorably discharged in 1952 and began working for National Food. LaVern was the market manager for many years. He later worked for Ernie’s Food Market. On April 20, 1954 LaVern married Delores Johnson. They lived in Wadena, Morris, Staples and many years at Lake Shamineau. LaVern enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He was adventurous and in 2000 he experienced riding a mule to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back. He loved his family and all the wonderful times enjoyed at the lake.

LaVern is survived by his wife, Delores; daughter, Roberta; son, Jeff (Dawn); grandchildren, Josh (Caitlin), Jeremy, Joel, Jon, Heidi (Jake), Austin and Evan; great grandchildren, Jacob, Rebekah, Aubriella, Megan; one sister, Bev; sister in law, Jeanne (Gene); brothers in law, Elmer (Andrea), Maurice; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
