Laurence Allen Petersen went to be with the Lord on October 19th, 2016 in his home in Brainerd, Minnesota. Larry was born on September 13th, 1943 in Minneapolis to Carl and Marie (Mangen) Petersen. He grew up in Minnetonka with ten loving brothers and sisters.
Larry met Janice (Tronrud) his loving wife of 52 years, on Independence Beach in 1962. He then spent two years in the military. Upon his return, the two were married on October 10th, 1964 in Long Lake, MN. One year later, Larry and Janice welcomed their first daughter, Jean Pauline, into the world. In 1970, they brought their second daughter home, Leslie Carline.
Throughout the years, Larry’s smile would light up any room he walked in to. He loved to spend time with his family. Some of his hobbies included working on cars (to make them faster than his brothers’), fishing with Janice, telling jokes, and making everyone laugh. He also liked to spoil his dog, Tanny - who now has diabetes because of all of the treats!
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Marie (Mangen) Petersen, his brother, Gregory Petersen, and brother-in-law Mark (Cecilia). He is survived by his wife, Janice (Tronrud) Petersen; his daughters Jean Phillips (Thomas) and Leslie McCarty; his grandchildren, Paul Elliott, Peter Elliott, and Nicole Hill (Shane); his brothers and sisters, Raymond (Arlene), Carolyn Sargent (Jack), Thomas (Judy), Mary Sherbrooke (Larry), Vincent, Stephan (Laura), Jeffery (Pam), Cecilia Schulte, Kevin (Theresa); sister-in-law Roberta (brother Gregory); and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Larry will be remembered for his laughter, jokes, big bear hugs, and his loving nature. May he live on in our thoughts, prayers, and hearts - forever.
