Sgt. Lathan C. Peterson, age 24, of Isle, died Friday, July 6, 2007 at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, California. Funeral services will be Friday, July 20, at 11 am, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, with the Air Force Chaplain officiating. Friends may visit Thursday, July 19, from 4-8 pm at Brenny Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Camp Ripley, with full military honors provided by Grand Forks Air Force Base. Luncheon will follow, at Brennys reception center.
Lathan Cale Peterson was born October 22, 1982 in Mora, to Terry and Stacy (Freier) Peterson. He graduated from high school in Isle in 2000, and enlisted in the Air Force. Following basic training in San Antonio, he served at Sheppard Air Force Base in TX, Dover Air Force Base in DE, and, most recently, at Travis Air Force Base in CA. He volunteered for and completed two active duty tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. He was an avid motocross racer and enjoyed hunting and ocean fishing. He especially loved spending time with his family and his many military friends across the country and around the world.
Lathan is survived by his parents, Terry and Stacy Peterson, Breezy Point; his brother, Justin Peterson, at home; his wife, Melissa Peterson, Brainerd; his grandparents, Ed and Elva Weinard, New Hope and Glenn and Alice Peterson, Milaca; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents and by a grandfather, Dale Freier. Services entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
