Larry Hansen

Larry Newton Hansen, age 78, of Backus, passed away at his home on August 22, 2023, with his family at his side, after a brave two-year battle with lung cancer.

Larry was born in Marshall, MN, on August 19, 1945, to Newton and Margaret (Olson) Hansen. He graduated from Boyd High School in Boyd, MN, in 1963. After high school he farmed on the family farm, had his own construction company, then worked for several construction companies and was a member of IUOE Local 49 until his retirement in 2000. He started a woodworking business in Backus, MN, that he ran for seven years. He then decided to drive semi over the road, which he did for 15 years. He loved hunting, fishing, trapping and reloading in his spare time.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Newton and Margaret; grandson, Tabor Allen Hansen; sisters, Betty Geihl and Beverly Kompelien; and brothers, Robert "Bob", Dean and Jimmie "Jim". He is survived by Gail (Chance), his wife of 33 years; children: Kim Hummel (Terry), Donald Larry Hansen, Susan Dahl (Shayne); 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Judy Peterson; brother, Jerry Hansen (Rose); sister-in-law, Margaret "Marge" (Downing) Hansen; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Knute-Nelson Hospice Team and the many kind souls who provided loving care for Larry and compassionate support for all of his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
