Larry Chantland

Larry Chantland, age 74, of Pine River, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at his home. He was born to Robert and Charlotte (Guy) Chantland on January 5, 1946, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Larry attended Mildred and Pine River Schools and Brainerd Community College where he received his LPN license. He worked in surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth before entering the army in 1965. Larry served three years, first in Fort Jackson, SC, followed by a tour of duty inVietnam at Medivac hospitals in Pleiku and Vung Tau. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Larry stayed involved in Veteran’s affairs, serving as Legion Commander for a time and was proud of his uninterrupted 52-year membership at Post 613. Cribbage and Trivia will not be the same without him.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman and gardener. He was a natural entertainer and storyteller, acting and directing in several local productions and was often asked to speak or M.C. at banquets, pageants and other events.

Larry loved his country and was passionate about politics, 2nd Amendment rights and his conservative values. He contributed many opinionated and entertaining articles and editorials to the local papers over the years. Throughout his life he worked mainly in nursing and real estate, most recently as a personal caregiver.

Larry is survived by his brother, Bob Chantland; children, Cindy (Brad) Noyes, Tony Chantland, Pamela Chantland and their mother, Linda Chantland; stepchildren: Sara (Mike) King, Kari Crimmins, Pete Eastwood, Luke Eastwood and their mother, Cindy Eastwood; grandchildren: Kegan Couture, Kasey Couture, Kyler Couture, Taylor Noyes, Nathan (Kristi) Noyes, Anthony Noyes, Jordan (Zach Duoos) Chantland, Janine (Andy) Boso, Justyne Litzau, Jake Litzau, Morgan King, Bailey Crimmins, Gracie Crimmins, Lola Eastwood; and great grandchildren: Grace, Chase, Kaylee and Khloe. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Suzette.

Services will be 11 AM on Monday, November 16, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 4 PM at Kline Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Monday. For those who prefer, memorials may be given to American Legion Post 613, Pine River.
