Kenneth Wenstrand

March 18, 1914 — November 19, 2007

Kenneth Norman Wenstrand, age 93, of Longville, passed away Monday, November 19, 2007, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 18, 1914 to Gust and Anna (Johnson) Wenstrand at their farm home northwest of Wakefield, NE. He was baptized into the Swedish Covenant Faith on October 4, 1914, and confirmed in the Swedish Mission Covenant Church on May 18, 1930.
He attended Logan Valley School through eighth grade and graduated from Wakefield High School in May of 1933. On December 29, 1939, he married Marie Carr and they moved onto Ken's farm in the spring of 1940. They farmed there for 20 years. Ken and Marie had two children, Terry and Laurene. In 1960, Ken and Marie purchased and began operating Hunters Bay Lodge on Woman Lake, south of Longville. They spent the next 19 years operating the resort where they made many lifelong friendships. They retired in 1979, when they built a retirement home on the south shore of Woman Lake. Ken was a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and was active in the Men's Fellowship. He served on the Sheriff's Water Patrol on Woman Lake when the patrol first started. He loved gardening and trees and often transplanted a nice tree he found in the woods at the resort.
Survivors include is wife of 67 years, Marie; son, Terry and his wife, Gloria, of Santa Clara, UT; daughter, Laurene of Plymouth, MN; grandsons, Mike of Las Vegas, NV, and Craig and his wife, Tara, of Brainerd, MN; great grandchildren, Brian, C.J., and Serra; sister-in-law, Marion Felt of Houston, TX; brother-in-law, Clinton Carr and his wife, Caroline, of Lyons, NE; three nieces, three nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gust and Anna Wenstrand, a brother, Russell, a sister-in-law, Irene, and an infant sister.
Services will be 2 PM on Friday, November 23 at Salem Lutheran Church, Longville, with Pastor John Monson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
