Absent from the body - present with the Lord." Pastor Kenneth Dean Proffitt entered into the presence of Jesus Christ his Savior on March 10, 2007 at the age of 74, surrounded by his loving children.
Ken was born on December 4, 1932 to Van and Helen Proffitt in Austin, MN. After graduating from Alexandria High School, Ken enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War, and served until 1956. Ken married Marilyn Hovland in 1958, and taught school before being called into the ministry. Ken studied at and graduated from Central Theological Seminary in Minneapolis, MN. Along with pasturing several churches, Ken started three churches: Prior Lake Baptist in 1968; Kingsway Baptist in Ottawa, Canada in 1974; and Cloquet Baptist in 1982. Being outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping were some of Ken's pleasures. He also enjoyed woodworking, art, gardening, and reading/studying. Ken's passion was sharing the Gospel with people, letting them know that accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior was their only way to Heaven. He battled Alzheimer's disease for over the past ten years. It was a difficult journey for him and his family.
Ken's wife and best friend, Marilyn, died from cancer in 2004. Ken was a playful, fun and loving father and will be missed greatly by his children: Julie (Randy) Mapson, Susan (Joel) Rose, and Jay Proffitt. Grandchildren, Joshua McClain, Brock and Mikaela Rose, and step-grandchildren, along with his brother Stacy survive him. Ken is alo preceded in death by his parents, Van and Helen Proffitt.
