Kenneth Price

November 29, 1936 — November 3, 2020

Kenneth H Price, age 83, of Pequot Lakes, MN passed away unexpectedly of heart failure on Nov. 3, 2020, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Ken is survived by Patricia Price, his loving wife and soulmate of 64 years. Ken was born to John and Dorothy Price on November 29, 1936, in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1954, and he met Pat through mutual friends a year later. They were married in 1956, and they raised their family of six children in the Twin Cities.  Ken started working as a mechanic at a variety of automotive dealerships shortly after high school. In 1970 he started working in the service department at Jim Lupient Oldsmobile in Golden Valley, MN, where he remained for the next 27 years until retirement.

After their children were grown, Ken and Pat enjoyed several years of winter getaways to warmer climates, eventually retiring in 1997 to their lake home on Loon Lake in Pequot Lakes. Once retired, Ken fulfilled his desire to own a Harley and experience the joy of the open road. Shortly thereafter, he traded in the Harley for an RV Travel Trailer, as that allowed Ken and Pat to travel together.

Ken and Pat enjoyed many years of RV travel across the country, and also several excursions into Canada. They shared a passion for history, nature and the great outdoors, and loved experiencing in person the places and things they’d read about and seen on TV and in movies.

Living on Loon Lake was a dream come true for Ken. He spent his later teenage years there, building the original cabin with his Dad, which was the beginning of many summer weekends at the lake, with Pat and their children. As their family grew, Ken’s Dad divided the property to allow Ken and his kids to build a larger cabin, which has been enjoyed for many years by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Some of the many memories include games of horseshoe, bocce ball, volleyball, badminton, swimming, boating, water skiing, listening to the loons, happy hours on the dock, watching the most amazing sunsets, and sitting around the bonfires. Ken also enjoyed winter activities with Pat, including snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.

With more free time in retirement, Ken continued his love for wood working projects. He started out merely intending to make a chair to replace one that was broken. His natural affinity for creating, resulted in starting Loon Lake Wood Products, where he designed, built, and sold or gave away well over 100 Adirondack chairs. He also created one-of-a-kind personalized wooden toys and keepsakes for each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ken is also survived by his only sibling, his sister Gayle Schaust (George); 6 children: Jim (Cindy) Price, Sue (Dave) Sack, Steve (Vangie) Price, Diane (Jim) Rose, John (Margarita) Price, and Carolyn (Rick) Fitzer; 14 grandchildren: Reid (Coral) Price, Meghan (Bryan) Carstensen, Holly (Ross) Parr, Kyle (Melissa) Sack, Jason Sack, Crystal (Mainor Ortiz) Price, Cassie (Drew Rindfleisch) Price, Stephanie, Mikaela and Kamryn Price, Emily and Angela Rose, Tony and Marty Fitzer; 8 great grandchildren: Jacob, Nora, Andrew, Logan, Isla, Harvey, Eliseo and Mayahuel; many extended family members and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Mike.

We will forever remember his humor, quick wit, extraordinary love of his family and the way he loved our Mom.  Our Dad leaves an unforgettable legacy we are proud and blessed to have witnessed.  He will always be living in our hearts.
