Kenneth Edmund Johnson, age 73, of Hackensack, passed away October 17, 2011, at Sanford Health, Bemidji. Ken was born in Minneapolis to Edwin E. and Clara (Holst) Johnson. He grew up in South Minneapolis along with his parents, brother, Lawrence, and sister, Audrey.
Ken attended Vocational High School with a goal to study the printing industry. Ken and Joanne met at Elwood Printing Company, which offered them their first job experiences while they were still in high school-Joanne a junior and Ken a senior. They married October 11, 1958 at St. Charles Borremeo Catholic Church in Minneapolis.
Ken followed his goal of working in the printing industry and worked at Elwood Printing, the Walter Anderson Company, and Nordic Press in New Hope as a Litho artist and foreman. He worked in the printing industry for over 40 years.
Ken and Joanne raised their family in the Excelsior village area and then retired to Hackensack, MN, in 1997. They owned and operated the "Sun & Fun", home of the old fashioned soda fountain in downtown Hackensack for 9 years. Ken enjoyed being on water, boating, fishing and gardening, but most of all enjoyed singing and contributing to the Sacred Heart music ministry in Hackensack. Ken was also the financial secretary of the Knights of Columbus Hackensack-Walker Council 13144.
Ken is survived by wife, Joanne; children: Gordon (Joan), Wayne (Ann), Connie (Bill), Pamela, and Darrell (Julie). Ken was also the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister.
Ken was truly a family man and was known for his quiet gentleness. His easy going disposition, cheery whistle and joyful song brought smiles to all that knew him.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Saturday, October 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hackensack, with Father Francis Kabiru officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM.
