Kenneth E. Holst, 66, of Shoreview, MN died peacefully in his home on Sunday, June 15, 2014. Funeral services for Kenneth will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 7, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, MN with Pastor Steve Sveom officiating, and visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples, MN.
Kenneth was born to Wilbur and Lillian (Johnson) Holst on July 24, 1947 in Staples, MN. He grew up in Staples with his seven siblings and graduated from Staples High School in 1965. Kenneth served his country as an Army Spec 5 in Vietnam from 1966-1969. He received service medals including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with four overseas bars. He was an expert with an M-14. Kenneth was an accomplished carpenter and spent most of his life working in the Phoenix or Minneapolis area. He was a superintendent for Abbott Northwestern for over 20 years. Kenneth loved hot rods and fixing up old cars. Most of all, he loved being with his family.
Kenneth is survived by his daughters, Tanya (John) Morrow of Mesa, AZ, Tara (Trevor) Haba of Gilbert, AZ; two grandchildren, Riley Gann and Bennett Morrow; brothers, Mike Holst of Crosslake, MN, David (Jackie) Holst of Brooklyn Park, MN, Huck (Marilyn) Holst of Staples, MN, Chuck (Carol) Holst of Staples, MN, Dan (Dee) Holst of Box Elder, SD; sisters, Doreen (Robert) Hewitt of Bemidji, MN, Kathie (Gay) Judd of Staples, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Kitty Holst. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
