Kenneth Louis Breneman, 89, of Brainerd, died Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Essentia Health - St. Joseph's Medical Center. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 9, 2016 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services and to stay for a reception following in the Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room.

Ken was born May 18, 1927, in Ray, MN, the son of Leon and Ellen (Peterson) Breneman. Following high school, Ken enlisted in the US Army and served for 4 years. Ken was proud of his military service and maintained a lifelong membership with VFW and American Legion. He continued his education and earned a Master's Degree in Education. He taught for Minneapolis Public Schools for 30 years. Ken was a member of the Minneapolis Education of Teachers. He also was active in the Lakes Area Senior Citizens, Widowed Friends Organization, and the Minnesota DFL Party. Ken enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as photography, woodworking, and was an avid Vikings fan. He also liked poetry and was a true Renaissance man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his daughter, Martha (Brian) Ahlschlager; significant other, Dorothy Svenvold; siblings, Jeane (Bob) Houska and Richard Breneman; grandchildren, Patricia (Justin) Haack, Ashley (Jeff Olson), Alixandra (Drew Bebus), and Natasha; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bruce; first wife, Edna Jane Bull; and second wife, Ramona Mae Taylor.
