Kegan Pohl

June 15, 1993 — October 16, 2018

Kegan Michael Pohl, born June 15, 1993, was 25 years old when he passed into Jesus’s loving arms on October 16, 2018. A funeral service for Kegan will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11:00AM at Heritage Church in Baxter, MN. Visitation for Kegan will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 3:00-5:00PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Gloria Dei Lutheran Cemetery in Pequot Lakes, MN.

Kegan was a bright young man with a genius IQ, who started reading at age 4 years, enjoyed art, writing, reading, math, science and playing baseball, even though he readily admitted he “sucked”. He started college at age 13 years, graduating with a diploma from Brainerd High School and an AA degree from Central Lakes College at 15. He was then accepted into the Computer Engineering program at St. Cloud State, where he attended for 2 years before he became too sick to continue.

By far, Kegan’s favorite thing to do was to play video games. He would start a game on the advanced level and beat it in a matter of hours. He would then go back and master all of the lower levels. Kegan’s first job was as an intern with the Social Security Administration and his second and only other job was working for Crow Wing County’s RSVP program updating their website. Kegan was diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia type 7 or SCA7 in 2010. Even though he had previously watched his sister, Mearan and brother, Bracken struggle and pass away from the same disease, Kegan never felt sorry for himself or let the disease nor its progression take away his faith in God. He knew he would see his siblings again and he knew his Lord and Savior would carry him through whatever SCA7 did to his body and mind.

Kegan is survived by his father and mother, Kyle and Suz Pohl; brother, Gavin Pohl; maternal Grandmother, Mary Bolin; paternal Grandfather and Grandmother, Richard and Sharon Pohl; Uncle Michael (Lisa) Poepke; great aunts Anita Carpenter, Diane Mattila, Penny Stark and Kathy (John) Shockey; great uncles Mark (Renee) Boesen, and Wayne (Irene) Boesen; honorary aunts Kris Marshall, Teri Jones; and cousins Miles Pearson, Steve Carpenter, Lee (Margie) Carpenter, Josh (Polly) Mattila, Jessica (Jake) Haugen, Shawn Mattila and Jaime (Mike) Groll. Kegan is preceded in death by his little sister, Mearan and little brother, Bracken; uncle Keith Pohl; grandfather Mike Poepke; and great grandparents Fred and Hallie Pohl and Etha Cook; great uncle Fred Mattila. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
