Kathryn E. Garin, age 87, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020 at her home in Crosslake. Private funeral services will be at 11AM on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake. Rev. Kurt Hagestuen will officiate, and burial will be in Pinewood Cemetery, Crosslake.
Kay was born October 14, 1932 in Willmar, MN to Francis and Ada (Martinson) Roetzer. She grew up in Atwater on Diamond Lake. Kay attended nursing school and worked at St. Barnabas hospital in Minneapolis. While working there, she met Robert “Bob” Garin who she later married on December 31, 1955. Kay and Bob lived in Prior Lake until they moved to Crosslake in 1972. She worked at the Brainerd State Hospital for over 30 years until her retirement. Kay was an active member of Crosslake Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Crosslake.
Kay was a loving wife, mother, grandma and great grandma to her two children; Buck (Karla), Cindy (Blaine); grandchildren, Evan, Nolan, Whitney, Andrew; great granddaughter, Lilly; brother, Wally; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Crosslake Fire Department or Kay supported Hammer Residences with her generosity. Please direct memorial gifts to Hammer Residences, Inc. in Kathryn Garin’s name (1909 Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata MN 55319. www.hammer.org/give).
