Kathleen ‘Kay' May Violette (Coyer), age 91, passed away on April 10th, 2016 in Brainerd, MN at Good Samaritan Assisted Living.
Kay was born on February 27th, 1925 in Fosston, MN to parent's Amil Maynord Coyer and Hazel May (Pulzer). Kay worked on her family's farm until the age of eighteen. She worked for 23 years until retirement at Armour Food Company in South St. Paul.
Kay was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was also an amazing friend that many will never forget. She married Leonard John Violette in Fosston, MN on June 17th, 1946 and the couple had three children together. They raised their beautiful girls in Inver Grove Heights, MN and both worked at Armours Meat Packing Factory. They spent their summers fishing with family and friends on Leach and Mille Lacs Lake.
She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, gardening, sewing, playing cards and cribbage, picnics, and spending time with family. Her family and friends will always remember her as a great cook, devoted to her family, witty, and the best cribbage player (and blackjack). Everyone will agree that Kay was a strong and feisty woman with a lot of spunk. She loved spending time at the lake playing cards and laughing with her family.
Kay is survived by her daughters Carol Cushing of Aurora, CO, LaVonne Juhl of Buckeye, AZ, and Verna Hawkinson (Curt) of Brainerd, MN. She is also survived by her grandkids Brenda Lessnau of Parker, CO, David Tufte (Julie) of Shakopee, Clifford Juhl (Elizabeth) of Scottsdale, AZ, Angela Obermiller of Grand Island, NE, Kelly Metz (Kevin) of Pillager, MN, Maureen Hartung (Andy) of St. Paul, MN, and Sara Hawkinson of Farmington, MN. Kay was also the loving great-grandmother of twenty great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother's Jake and Lynn Coyer, sister Audrey Johnston, and husband Leonard Violette.
A funeral is scheduled for Thursday April 14th, 2016 at 11 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bagley, MN with visitation beginning one hour prior to services at the church, with a reception to follow and burial in Lengby, MN. Father JohnMelkies Suvakeen will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kay's life.
