Kathleen Melde

Kathleen A. Melde, age 77, of Mission Twp., died on Friday, April 13, 2001 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Memorial services will be held at a later date in St. Paul. Arrangements are by Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Kathleen ?Kay? Melde was born on December 21, 1923 in St. Paul, to George P. and Gladys (Whipps) McLoughlin. She grew up and attended schools in St. Paul. She was married to her husband, Roger Melde, in St. Paul, on July 6, 1943. The couple lived in Northfield until Roger entered the service, when Kathleen returned to St. Paul. They began vacationing on Horseshoe Lake in 1952, moving here permanently after retirement. Kathleen was a homemaker until her children were grown. After that, she worked as a Nursing Assistant at United Hospital in St. Paul for 16 years. In addition to caring for her own 6 children she was a foster mother for more than 20 years. She attended Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake.

Kathleen is survived by her husband Roger; 3 daughters Mary Jo (Glenn) Freshwater of Vadnais Heights, Julie (Don) Kehoe of Woodbury, and Debbie (Clarence) Taylor of St. Paul; 3 sons Roger (Marcia) Melde, Jr. of Harris, Stephen (Linda) Melde of St. Paul, and David (Tammy) Melde of St. Paul; a brother, Melvin (Arlene) O?Loughlin of Fair Oaks, CA; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Her parents, one brother, and a daughter, Sharon, preceded her in death.
