Kathleen Calhoun

Kathleen “Kathie” A. MacKenzie Calhoun, 69, of Baxter, MN died at Essentia Health/St. Joseph’s Medical Center on Monday, April 30, 2018. Services for Kathie will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 11:00AM at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd, MN with visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Kathie was born on August 16, 1948 in St. Paul, MN to Gordon “Bud” and Sophie (Marks) McClellan. She attended and graduated from White Bear Lake High School. After high school, Kathie attended the University of Minnesota and St. Scholastica. She met and married Chuck MacKenzie. They made their home in Brooklyn Center and then Colorado, before moving to Brainerd, MN in 1976. Kathy started working for Potlatch in 1979 in the Human Resources Department and was there for over 23 years. In 1981, Kathie sustained an injury from a snowmobile accident that left her wheelchair bound. She continued working for Potlatch and retired from there after the mill closed in 2002. Kathie then began working for Crosby Manufacturing in Riverton in their Human Resources Department until 2005. Kathie married Todd Calhoun in July of 2001. She enjoyed bible study, crafting, gardening, and playing cards. Kathie loved traveling and spending time with her family on holidays and summertime on the lake with the sun shining. She will always be remembered for being so strong, compassionate, loving, and fiercely independent.

Kathie is survived by her children, Scott (Tabi) MacKenzie of Big Lake, MN and Shawn (Jill Davis) MacKenzie of Aitkin, MN; grandchildren, Jasmine and Devin MacKenzie; sister, Betty Jean (Ray) Kycek of Olympia, WA; brother, John “Mac” (Janell) McClellan of Eden Prairie, MN; and nieces, Sarah Grogan of Elmira, NY and Jenna (David) Estlick of Edina, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Sophie; and sister, Rebecca “Becky” Juechter. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
