Baxter

Karen Doreen Schmid (Tisdel), aged 84, passed away on December 30, 2024, in Baxter, MN. Born on January 31, 1940, Karen lived a life marked by kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity.

Karen graduated from Excelsior High School and spent the majority of her professional life as a secretary at Rush City High School. Throughout her time at the school, she was deeply loved and respected for the support and compassion she offered both the students and colleagues with whom she worked. Her commitment to the education and wellbeing of the students will live on in the community she helped to build.

Beyond her career, Karen was deeply committed to both her family and her community. Her caring nature and desire to make the world a better place drove her in all areas of life. She volunteered often, working with the local 4-H chapter and the Red Cross, and donating additional time outside of work to Rush City High School. Her passion for gardening, which she shared with her fellow members of the Rush City Garden Club, was evident from her beautiful home gardens. While she moved throughout her life, she always had a thriving garden wherever she was.

Karen is survived by her sons, Michael (Leesa) and Andrew (Linda); her grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda (Ben), Melanie, and Wyatt; her great-grandchildren, Payton, Vander, Abigail, and Violet; her sister, Penny (Larry); and her partner, Karl. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Gary, and her sister, Carol (Richard). Her family remembers her as a pillar of strength and warmth, whose presence enriched the lives of those around her.

A private memorial celebration will be held for the family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. In honor of her life and her lifelong love of gardening, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Minnesota State Horticultural Society.

Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
