June Marie (Martin) Nygren, age 93, of West Fargo, ND, and formerly Hackensack , MN, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016, in Fargo, ND. June was born September 22, 1922, four miles west of Hackensack, to Victor and Thilda Martin. She grew up by Birch Lake, swimming, fishing and helping her mother garden. She graduated from Hackensack High School in 1940. On September 19, 1942, she married Eugene Nygren at Union Congregational Church in Hackensack. They lived in Brainerd until 1944 when Gene was inducted into the Navy. June followed him, living in Idaho and California until he was discharged. They returned to Brainerd until 1955, when Gene was transferred by the railroad to Jamestown, ND. They retired in 1980 and moved back where June had grown up. They traveled in the U.S., went on a Caribbean Cruise and fished in Canada. June belonged to the Union Congregational Church, the Hackensack American Legion Auxiliary and was also the historian of the Birch Lake Association. Gene and June enjoyed gardening, crafts, family and friends.
June was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; her parents; her siblings and their spouses: Vernon Martin (Maude), Ruth Rinke (Guy), Fred Martin (Willa); and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerald and Francis Nygren.
June is survived by her children: Linda Willman (John) of West Fargo, ND, David Nygren (Sue) of Jamestown, ND, Don Nygren (Sheila) of Horace, ND, Lori Reed (Larry) of West Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
June felt blessed all her life by a loving husband, family and great friends. She was grateful for the Hospice of Red River Valley for their kindness and help throughout the tough years.
Services will be 2 PM on Saturday, August 27, at Union Congregational Church, Hackensack. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hackensack.
