Julian "Chip" Martin Avelsgaard, 61, of Brainerd died on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at North Memorial Medical Center in Minneapolis as a result of an accident. Services for Chip will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Heritage Assembly of God Church in Brainerd with Pastor Bob Kemper officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter from 5:00-7:00 PM and one hour prior to services at the church.

Chip was born on July 25, 1949 in Crosby, Minnesota to Julian and Maxine (Abear) Avelsgaard Sr. Chip married Carolyn Ehmke on August 2, 1967 in Brainerd, MN, where they made their home and raised their children. Chip was a pastor at Oak Street Chapel and he truly loved helping others. He was a member of the North American Hunting Club, Brainerd MN Association, Patriot Guard, Caribou Coffee Clutch, RSVP Volunteer, Pastor for Ministry of Heart to Home, Interfaith Hospitality Network, and the Oak Street Praise Band. Chip loved spending time with his family and friends

Chip is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters, Teresa (Todd) Wooden and Annette (Nate) Vogt of Brainerd, MN; sisters, Lynette (Wally) Lundgren of Brainerd, MN, Pam (Mike) Anderson of Pioria, Illinois, Kathy (Mike) Badger of Brainerd, MN; grandson, Brandon Avelsgaard; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; close friend, Tom Smith; many nieces and nephews; his wonderful brothers and sisters at Oak Street Chapel Church. He was preceded in death by his infant daughters, Susan and Sandra; son, Julian III; and his parents, Julian Sr. and Mardell.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
