Julia Pieper

April 17, 1925 — November 24, 2016

Julia Jean Pieper (Spanko) of Crosslake, MN, age 91 passed away peacefully with family by her side. She was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on Thursday November 24, 2016. Julie was born April 17, 1925 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Julia and Jacob Spanko.

Julie graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in education in 1946. Following a year of teaching she was selected by Northwest Airlines as a flight attendant when she moved to Minneapolis and met the love of her life John Pieper.

A wonderful mother of five children, she was devoted to her family. She enjoyed an active lifestyle regularly playing golf and tennis well into her later years. She also became a successful businesswoman by opening her own clothing store, Julie’s Fine Fashions in Pequot Lakes, MN.

Julie loved to travel, taking trips to Europe, Asia, Mexico, and South America with family members, and enjoyed the beach. She would be described by many as adventurous and fun. She enjoyed hors d’oeuvres on the boat, coffee time after church, and getting together with friends. Julie was a beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend all of whom were blessed to have known her.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, parents Julia and Jacob Spanko, sister Mildred Dears and brother Jacob Spanko. She is survived by her five children Paula Zagel (Jim), John Pieper, Linda Wilson (Bruce), Julie Cervin (Jim), and Priscilla Grossman (Jim), and 13 grandchildren Elizabeth and Sarah Zagel, Emily, Cecilia, and John Pieper, Robert, Holly, and Heather Wilson, Justin (Amber) and James (Saja) Cervin, Jakota, Katriana, and Vanessa Grossman, and 1 greatgrandson Jackson, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Please join Julie’s family in celebrating her life on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church in Crosslake. Family and friends are welcome to start gathering one hour prior to services. Interment will be next to husband, John at Pinewood Cemetery.
