Judith Ann Prehn was born to Kenneth and Eunice (King) Prehn in Watertown, SD on March 6, 1944. She passed away at the age of 73 on Saturday, January 20, 2018. She fought a valiant battle with cancer and her strength was an example of the way she lived her life. She was an inspiration and mentor to everyone who met her. She cared very deeply about others and always put them before herself.
She lived on the family farm until graduation from high school. This farm was homesteaded by her great-grandfather, John Prehn and his wife Esta in 1874, and is now farmed by the fifth generation. After graduation, she worked for the SD Dept. of Public Welfare in Brookings, SD, then moved to Anoka, MN to work for Cornelius Company. There, she met and married Max E. Maas. They had one son, John Robert, who married Lindsey Hahn, giving them two grandchildren, Brenna and Max. In 1983, they bought the Belzona distributorship, moved to Crosslake, and ran it together until Max’s death due to cancer in 2001. Judy married Dan Kenobbie in 2006. Dan’s first wife was her roommate in business college, and they remained lifelong friends. Most important to her were her faith, family, extended family, and friends. She cared about people who were hurting, and keeping seniors in their own homes. She started a pool of private drivers to take people to medical appointments and errands as needed. She coordinated and drove the senior van to Brainerd for errands and groceries. They donated use of their building in Crosslake for the community clothes closet.
She is survived by husband, Dan Kenobbie; son, John (Lindsey) Maas; grandchildren, Brenna and Max Maas; sisters, Ellen (Don) Johnson and Wendy (Mark) Wersal; sister-in-law Joy Prehn; brother Roger (Arden) Prehn; 5 stepchildren, Scott (Jean) Maas, Todd Maas, Kurtis (Mary) Kenobbie, Kelvin (Yun) Kenobbie, and Kari (Rick) Espin; 10 step-grandchildren, Jamie (Kyle), Jen (Seth), Chandra (Justin), Ashley (Matt), Spencer, Miles, Grahm, Chip, Karah, and Will; and 4 great-grandchildren. Memorials are preferred rather than flowers, to the Log Church Building Fund “Sanctuary Turnaround Fund”, or a memorial of your choice.
