Juanita Belle Lind, 94, of Brainerd, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Good Samaritan Village-Woodland. Services for Juanita will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services. Interment will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
Juanita was born May 14, 1918, in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of Henry and Caren (Lier) Harris. The family moved to Hackensack, MN, and later to Brainerd where she grew up and went to school. After graduating from high school and business College, Juanita worked for 45 years at the Crow Wing County Auditor's Office, taking a few years off to dedicate herself to raising a family.
In 1942, she was united in marriage to Lester Lind, 11 days before he went into the Army. Juanita was a beautiful writer, and wrote letters to Lester every day for the 4 years he was overseas. In addition to her love for writing, she enjoyed photography, with a special photographic flair for capturing family gatherings and vacations in both still & motion pictures. She loved traveling from the East Coast to West by train and plane, with memorable trips to Scandinavia and Greece. Over the past 10 years, Juanita had become a "snow bird" spending the winters with her daughter & son-in-law in Palm Desert, CA.
Juanita was an excellent cook; everyone enjoyed her wild game & Walleye dishes. Also known, for her wonderful baked goods, she kept friends & family across the country supplied with special treats year-around. She was a passionate animal lover; dogs, cats, birds, rabbits & all wild creatures often were given a fresh bowl of water, and some food or seed in her backyard. Juanita also loved her gardening and always had beautiful petunias & hydrangeas to brighten the block.
She will be missed by her children, Doug (Bonnie), of Maple Plain, and Debra (Doug2) Vollmer, of Palm Desert, Calif.; sisters, Jean Bliss, of Brainerd and Twila Danzig, of Los Angeles; brother/sister-in-law Carlos & Inez Lind, of Baxter, and sisters-in-law Mary Nyquist of Cambridge, MN and Bernice Lind of Brainerd, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Beth Tyrholm and Virginia Bollig, and brother, Austin Harris
