Joyce Spence

Joyce Theresa Spence, 88, of Garrison, MN died at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00AM at Our Lady Of Fatima Catholic Church in Garrison, MN with visitation at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Garrison Cemetery.

Joyce was born on February 24, 1928 in St. Michael, MN the youngest of twelve children to Nicholas and Gertrude (Kessler) Schirmers. She graduated from St. Anthony of Padua High School in 1946. Joyce and Bill fell in love and were married on October 1, 1949 in Minneapolis, MN. Joyce was a sales clerk at Donaldson Department Store in downtown Minneapolis for seven years. She was a wonderful mother and wife to William and their six children. Joyce was a marvelous cook and always baking desserts. She enjoyed needlepoint and had a great sense of humor. Joyce enjoyed 25 years of healthy retirement and loved traveling in the winter months to Gulf Shores, AL for 12 years. Joyce was a member of the Garrison Lions, Garrison Kitchen Band, Our Lady of Fatima Ladies Guild, and the Garrison Senior Group.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 67 years, William of Garrison, MN; children, Colleen of Blaine, MN, Michele (Joseph) Cameron of Little Falls, MN, Timothy of Blaine, MN, William A. of Blaine, MN, Mary Claire of Brainerd, MN, and Gregory (Joanne) of Cambridge, MN; eight grandchildren, Lora, Amy (Shawn), Michael (Pam), Joseph, Matthew, Nicholas, Bethany, and Anna Marie; nine great-grandchildren, Jason, Tyler, Danielle, Caitlin, Ashley, Cody, Marissa, Riley, and Amelia. She is preceded in death by her parents; eleven siblings; and grandson, Daniel Yager. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
