Joyce Merriman

Joyce "Estella" R. Merriman, 85, of Staples died on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Lakewood Health System Hospital in Staples, MN. Services for Estella will be held at a later date.

Estella was born on February 8, 1930 in Watkins, MN to Oscar and Hulda (Luoma) Peterson. She was united in marriage to Ward Merriman in 1950. Together they owned and operated several bars and restaurants. Estella and Ward moved to Colorado in 1972 where they opened a deli. Estella retired from King Super Grocery Chain. She moved to Minnesota to be closer to family and lived in Buffalo, MN before moving to Staples, MN. Estella enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and doing embroidery. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Estella is survived by her children, Steve Merriman of Brainerd, MN, Jeffrey (Susan) Merriman of Hayward, WI, and Kevin (Barb) Merriman of Denver, CO; sisters, Margaret Hendrickson of Staples, MN, Dorothy Larson of Kingston, MN, and Marlene Alm of Maple Lake, MN; brother, Roger (Maxine) Peterson; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Hulda; brothers, Alden, Wilbur, and Arnold Peterson; sisters, Lori Carlson and Margie Mueller; and step-mother, Sophie. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
