She graduated from Edgerton High School in 1947 and was united in marriage to George Hauan on June 3, 1952. They moved to Dassel and she worked as a bookkeeper at the Augustana Nursing Home in Litchfield. She moved to Baxter where she was very active in the Lord of Life Lutheran Church. She enjoyed dancing, crocheting, visiting with friends and watching birds. Her family was her greatest joy. She and George moved often because of the Navy, but she could always make a house a home. Many said that Joyce never met a stranger because she was a friend to all.
