Josephine Hove

Josephine "Jo" Hove, 88, of Motley, MN died Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Harmony House of Motley. Funeral services for Jo will be 10:30AM, Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Swan Valley Lutheran Church in Leader, MN with Pastor Jim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00PM, Friday, September 11, 2015 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and also one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Poplar Cemetery in Leader, MN.

Jo was born January 1, 1927 in Hinckley, MN to Benjamin and Mabel (Noyes) Spilman. She moved with her family to the Leader area and attended school through the eighth grade and then worked at the Leader store. Jo was united in marriage to Willard Hove on January 8, 1945 in Staples, MN. They lived in St. Charles, MN and various communities as Willard worked in many creameries as a butter maker, with Jo working by his side wrapping and cutting butter. They moved to the Leader area and farmed until Willard's death in 1992. Jo moved to the Staples Hi Rise for many years and then moved to Motley, where she resided until the time of her death. Jo enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, canning, gardening, mending and alterations for others, puzzles, traveling, volunteering at the hospital and Meals on Wheels, calling Bingo and heading up the birthday club and organizing the yearly senior dinner. Jo was a lifetime member of Swan Valley Lutheran Church. Family was very important to Jo.

Jo is survived by her children, Beatrice (Clark) Meech of Nimrod, MN, daughter in law, Anita (Darrell, deceased) Hove of Staples, MN, Janice (Ronn) Knodel of White Sulphur Springs, MT, Dale (Brenda) Hove of Motley, MN, Dean Hove of Staples, MN, Dannie (Amy) Hove of Roseau, MN, Duane Hove (Tina DesMarais) of Starbuck MN; 26 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; siblings, Ernest Spilman of Motley, MN, Leroy Spilman of Clinton, WA, Vernon Spilman of Foxhome, MN, Edward Spilman of Nisswa, MN, Irene Johnson of Staples, MN, Edna Dahlvang of Maple Grove, MN, Mary Larson of Brooklyn Park, MN, Douglas Spilman of Pillager, MN, Elaine Perry of Sun Valley, NV, Richard Spilman of Billings, MT, and Walter Spilman of Circle Pines, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Mabel; husband, Willard; son, Darrell; two grandsons; two great grandsons; one great granddaughter; brothers, Wayne, Marvin and Donald. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
