Joseph Marushin

Joseph M. Marushin, 92, formerly of Minneapolis and Brainerd, died on November 20, 2010 at the Mother of Mercy Campus of Care in Albany, MN. He was born September 4, 1918 in Pennsylvania, but grew up in Minneapolis. He was the youngest of eight children. He served in the US Navy. On September 20, 1942 he married LaVerda Buss from South Dakota. They lived in Minneapolis, where Joe worked for Minnegasco Gas Company (now Centerpoint) for 33 years, retiring in 1980. They had a lake home in Crosslake since 1959 and made that their permanent home in 1980, then moved to Brainerd in 1996. Joe was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd and former member of Crosslake Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Geritol Frolics. He will be loved and missed by daughter Pat Derby; son Mike (Gina) Marushin; grandchildren, Patrick (Robin) Marushin, Amy (Nick) Rief, Matthew and Megan Derby; and great-grandchildren, Elena and Benjamin Marushin. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerda; son-in-law, David Derby; and his siblings.

Memorials preferred to Mother of Mercy Campus of Care in Albany, MN.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, November 29 at Mother of Mercy Campus of Care Chapel with Pastor David Holte officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services. Interment will be at the Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake, MN on Tuesday, November 30 at 12:00 PM.
