Joseph William Carl, age 80 of Motley, MN, formerly of Princeton, MN passed away at the VA nursing home in St. Cloud on December 21, 2012. Services will be held at 10am on Friday, December 28, 2012 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Motley, MN. Wake will be Thursday evening from 5-7pm, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, MN, with the rosary starting at 6:45, and prayers at 7:00, and 1 hour prior to the service, at the church. Burial, with honors, will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
Joe was born April 16, 1932 in Red Lake falls, MN to Leo and Anna Carl. He was in the US Army and served in the Korean War. He was married on April 23, 1955 to Cecilia E. Cardinal. He worked at Creamette Co. in Minneapolis until he retired to Motley in 1994. He was a member of the Princeton and Motley Legion, and a member of the Motley Lions. He was also involved with many other clubs.
He loved to fish, camp, play cards, and go to Corpus Cristi, TX in the winter. He loved spending time with his family. His most favorite thing to do was, to mow lawns for the elderly women.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Anna Carl. His twin brother James Alfred, who was killed in the Korean War, his older brother, 4 sisters, and his daughter Mona Steinke. He is survived by wife, Cecilia; sons Kevin (Janie) of Crystal, MN; James (Maryann) of Corpus Christi, TX; daughter Janet Tranby (Steven) of Fridley, MN; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild & many nieces and nephews.
