Joseph Brawthen, age 59 of Staples passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at the Greater Staples Care Center. Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, May 26th at the United Methodist Church in Staples with Pastor Dan Almquist officiating. Friends may call at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples on Friday evening from 4 to 7 PM and 1 hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
Joseph Steele Brawthen was born on December 9, 1941, in Minneapolis, MN to Alwin and Marjorie (Winnop) Brawthen. He grew up in Minneapolis graduating from Roosevelt High School with the Class of 1959. He later attended Dunwoody Institute. On December 7, 1963, he was united in marriage to Marlene Pogreba in Minneapolis. They made their home in Minneapolis until 1968, when they moved to Colorado and then moved to Kasson, MN in 1982. Following his retirement from IBM in November of 1997, he and Marlene moved to Staples.
Joe is survived by his wife, Marlene; 2 sons: Tim (Jennifer) Brawthen of Rockville, MN and Steve (Jodie) Brawthen of Monticello, MN; 2 granddaughters, Sarah and Amanda; his mother, Marjorie Chiarito of Ukiah, CA; 1 sister, Sandra (Ron) Mannz of Redwood Falls, MN; 3 brothers: Mark (Cathy) Brawthen of Hesperia, CA, John Brawthen of Mound, MN and Jim Brawthen of Ukiah, CA. His father and 1 brother preceded him in death.
