Jon Berggren

Jon Berggren, 56, of rural Staples, MN passed away at his home on Monday, July 25, 2016. Services for Jon will be at 11:00AM, Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, with Pastors Barry Klein, Mike Kilgallin and Jim Conner officiating. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00PM, Friday, July 29, 2016 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and one hour prior to services at the church. Private interment will be at Scandinavian Cemetery in Forest Lake, MN.

Jon was born December 15, 1959 in Biloxi, Mississippi to Victor and Verna (Weckerly) Berggren. He attended and graduated from Anoka Ramsey Community College with an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement. Jon worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Anoka County Sheriff's Department for 28 years, in many different capacities. He was a patrol deputy, SWAT team member and sniper, crime scene investigator, school resource officer, range officer, honor guard member, and a field training officer. Jon was united in marriage to Kim Kubitza in 1990. He was a leader for his sons Cub Scout troops, an active member of the Andover Christian Church, member of the Minnesota Police Officers Association, and of Staples Church of Christ. After his retirement in May of 2014, Jon and Kim moved to the Staples area and built their retirement home on their hunting land in rural Staples. Jon enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, being outdoors, woodworking, and working with guns. His greatest enjoyment was his family; spending time with his wife and children. Jon's faith was deeply important to him.

Jon is survived by his wife, Kim of rural Staples; children, Katheryn of rural Staples, Derek (Maggie) of Coon Rapids, Joshua of rural Staples, Hunter of rural Staples; brothers, Milt (Margie), Victor (Kris); sisters, Tammy (Tracy) Hall, Tanya (Mark) Maloney; and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Verna. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
