Jolene Munholand, age 81, of Fifty Lakes, MN passed away at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota on August 25, 2017, due to a stroke. Jolene Marsha Ihnen was born in Harris, Osceloa County, Iowa to Harry and Selma Ihnen on May 26, 1936.
Jolene graduated from Glenwood High School in 1954, traveled to Minneapolis where she worked for Honeywell, and in 1955 married Donald Kellar in Glenwood, Minnesota. They moved to Washington state where Don served in the US Air Force. A year and a half later they returned to Minnesota. After Don’s graduation from Dunwoody, they located to Minot North Dakota. Jolene attended a tech school there where she studied accounting. They resided in North Dakota for 25 years where they raised a family; 2 boys, Dennis and Dean, and a daughter, Debra. Jolene and Don returned to Minnesota in 1986 and Don passed away in 1995. After retiring, Jolene moved north to Crosslake, Minnesota where she later met and married Eldon “Puz” Munholand in October of 2006.
Jolene threw herself into civic life in Fifty Lakes. She was proud of her work with the Lion’s Club. She belonged to many organizations including her investment club where she acted as bookkeeper, and book club. She was active in her church. She was also an avid card player and Yahtzee afficianado. She enjoyed traveling throughout her life. She traveled to Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Ireland, several times to Alaska, and many places throughout the continental US and Canada. She was the family historian and story teller, the glue that held the extended family together.
Left to cherish her memory is husband, Eldon Munholand; her sons, Dennis (Ellen) Kellar and Dean (Sue) Kellar; and daughter, Debra (Steve) Dahlke and her step-children, Elizabeth (Steven) White, Kathryn (Russ) Miller, Barb (Randy) Hemstad, and Bruce (Keri) Munholand. She will also be missed by brother, Earl (Alfa) Ihnen and sister, Karen (George) Koubsky; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and scores of nieces and nephews who were devoted to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Kellar; her siblings, Phyllis (Sylvester) Holle, Florence (Chet) Torgeson, Lavonne “Vonnie” (Marvin) Anderson; her sister-in-law, Marilyn (Lavern) Kreft; and sister-in-law, Becky Kellar.
A Celebration of Jolene’s Life will be held at Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake, MN on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM. A Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake from 5-7 PM and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be Friday, September 1 at Morningside Memorial Gardens in Coon Rapids, MN.
