John Yeske

September 12, 1923 — April 1, 2015

John Yeske, 91, of Perham, MN, formerly of Staples, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Perham Living in Perham, MN. Funeral services for John will be 11:00AM, Monday, April 6, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Pastor Steve Sveom officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples, MN.

John was born September 12, 1923 in Long Prairie, MN to Mary Yeske. He graduated from Staples High School and was known in Staples as "Swish", because of his basketball talent. John entered the US Army and served in WWII. Following his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Comfort "Comfy" Stangeland on September 10, 1950. John was employed by Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroad for 43 years in Staples. He enjoyed his family and grandchildren, raising pigeons, pheasant hunting, his hunting dogs, bird watching, camping and fish aquariums.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Comfort "Comfy"; children, Mary (David) Thompson of Princeton, MN, Elliot (Ila) Yeske of Pelican Rapids, MN, Gale (Jeff) Thomas of Corcoran, MN, Heidi (Jeff) Weishalla of Sartell, MN; ten grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; and one great grandson, Cameron Yeske. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
