John Oscar (Jack) Wallschlaeger (age 81) passed away suddenly on 04/21/2013. Jack was born and raised in LaCrosse, WI, worked for Honeywell / Alliant Tech Systems for 35 years while living in Edina, MN and retired to Pequot Lakes, MN. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years (Judy); one daughter Julie (Michael) O'Brien of St. Paul, MN; one son Steve (Jeannie) Wallschlaeger of Edina, MN; sister LoAnn Ramlo of Fargo, ND and four grandchildren (Nika, Marena (Wallschlaeger) and Fred, Sam (O'Brien).A giant in the science of the environment and water quality, Jack filled his retirement focusing on environmental stewardship and assessing and managing the natural resources of the Whitefish chain, the Pine River Watershed, Crow Wing and Cass county lakes. He authored multiple papers on water quality and helped design the water sampling regiment. He was president of the Whitefish Area Property Owners Association and continued to serve on the board until his passing. Jack was recognized by MN Waters, an appointee of the Crow Wing board of adjustment and a director for the Crow Wing EPA. A memorial service will take place at St. Alban's Episcopal Church (Edina, MN) at 11:00 am on April 25, and a celebration of life on May 5th at the Ideal Community Center in Pequot Lakes, MN at 12:00 pm.
