John Riggs

John Riggs, age 80, of Staples, passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital, on Thursday, October 4, 2012. A Funeral service is planned for Monday, October 8th, at 10:30 AM, at the Staples Church of Christ. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, from 3-5, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, and one hour prior to the service, at the church. Burial will be at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery, in Staples.

John was born on May 23, 1932, in Bertha, MN, to Floyd and Nettie May (South) Riggs. After completing High School, John entered the US Marine Corps, where he served his country for 3 years. Upon returning from the service, he worked for Butler Manufacturing as the lead man in the paint department, for 24 years, retiring in 1984. He was united in marriage to Helen Johnson on August 12, 1995. He was a member of the VFW Post 7826, Faith Lutheran Church, in Miltona, MN, and the Lake Irene Association.

John is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Judy Kedrowski, Alice Majerus, Vicki (Dewey) Jenson, James (Jeanne) Johnson, Debra (Hank) Bailey, and Jeffrey (Lori) Johnson; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Cleo Carter and Gloria Swart; brother, William Riggs; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
